[For my resume as an editor, click here] I've worked as an editor, copyeditor, and proofreader since the late 1980s, when I was hired as an editorial assistant for the Journal of Fusion Energy at MIT's Plasma Fusion Center. From there I moved to Houghton Mifflin, where I read submissions, wrote manuscript reports, and corresponded with authors and agents. After leaving to work on my own writing, I continued to freelance as an editor—copyediting new product descriptions for Test & Measurement World, writing and editing sales presentations for Polaroid, and working with several non-native-English-speaking scientists on articles for publication. After finishing a graduate degree in Comparative Literature and German in 1996, I spent five years in New York City, doing legal and business proofing for several firms, including O'Sullivan Graev & Karabell and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. This led into half a year as the managing editor of the New York Resident, Manhattan's largest neighborhood newspaper, where I oversaw the publication of articles in all sections of the paper. From 1998 to 2000 I was Special Projects Editor at the academic journal LinguaFranca, producing the second edition of their Real Guide to Grad School. During this period I also began proofreading and copyediting manuscripts for Ballantine Books and Viking Penguin. Most recently, in addition to editing for Ballantine and Viking, I have also helped prepare a number of academic manuscripts for publication, many with non-native speakers from my university-level ESL classes. Some of the projects I have worked on are listed below: ACADEMIC PUBLICATIONS TRADE PUBLICATIONS |
